Great Gatsby description

The Great Gatsby is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a young man called Nick who travels to New York to make his fortune. When he arrives he is met with various intriguing and eccentric characters most of whom are extremely upper class and represent a microcosm of the upper echelon of society. As this Novel is written after the Wall Street Crash it could be interpreted that the portrayal of these characters is somewhat satirical. It could easily be argued that the conceited nature of several of the characters could be deemed ironic for soon the biggest economic depression known to western society would destroy it.
